Solid foundations

I grew up in Warwickshire – Shakespeare’s county – in the UK and soon developed a taste for foreign languages. In my early teens I began to learn French and German at school and took both subjects at GCSE and A-Level up to the age of 18.

My tertiary education led me to Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where I attended the renowned School of Management and Languages to study a four-year course to become a Master of Arts in Languages (Interpreting and Translating) – a qualification that laid the foundation for my career in the language services industry.

As part of my university studies, I also had the opportunity to attend the Institut libre Marie Haps (ILMH) in Brussels and Universität Leipzig in Germany as part of the ERASMUS programme.

Full immersion

After earning my MA in Languages (Interpreting and Translating), my career path naturally led me back to mainland Europe. In 2009, I embarked on my first in-house role as a translator in Leipzig, which marked the beginning of a 15-year journey in the language services industry. During this time I honed my expertise in translation and developed a deep understanding of the profession.

By 2024, I decided to embrace the flexibility and independence of freelancing, launching my full-time career as a freelance translator. This new chapter allowed me to focus on the areas of specialization I’m most passionate about and to work directly with clients who value precise, high-quality translations tailored to their needs.

I’ve since made my home in Sonneberg, the gateway to the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. Living here has offered me the opportunity to immerse myself fully in German culture and language, which has enriched both my personal life and my professional perspectives.
